Dehydration
Dehydration occurs when more fluid is lost than is taken in.
About 75% of Americans do not drink the recommended 8-10 cups of water daily. Dehydration is a leading cause of illness and death in infants and leads to hospitalization in the elderly. While mild dehydration is easily treatable with rehydration and rest, severe cases can be life-threatening, especially when fluid loss reaches 9-12% of body weight.
